Students are energetic, enthusiastic and they have a lot of free time. Engaging in social service while taking education , brings students in contact with people of different start of society keeping this in mind the university grant commission recommended that National Social service cells should be established in the universities & colleges in India . Therefore, Mumbai university chooses NSS as extreme medium to create a sense of social awareness amongst students. In 2002 Navnirman College has started NSS unit for this purpose. The unit gives admission to 200 students per year. Through posters, road shows & rallies students proudly participate in AIDS, Polio, environment protection rallies to create social awareness. Every year the unit held special camp in adopted village. In 07 days special camp NSS volunteers take active part in tree planting, road — lake cleanliness drive, health awareness program, building water reservoirs etc. The unit also organized different activities in the college itself, with lectures of eminent people on important social aspects of life. In this way the unit creates opportunities for student to participate in district level training camp, National solidarity camp & also National flag hosting ceremony in New Delhi. The university gives grace marks and certificate to students to completed their 120 hrs. Works in a academic year.
